A visit in your home would
include a thorough assessment and evaluation of mother and baby. Assessment would be made of baby’s oral
anatomy and the anatomy of mother’s breast. A breastfeeding session would be observed with assistance given and
suggestions made on how to latch baby, maintain the latch, and recognize when
baby is drinking at the breast. Education
around child development and breastfeeding behaviours would also be provided as
necessary to help the parents understand their baby more clearly. Information
on local areas of support would
be shared. More complex breastfeeding situations can also be
addressed with evidence based information shared and support given. Time - 1-2 Hours Postnatal breastfeeding consultation in my home
A visit to my home might be
more convenient for you. The visit would
take the same format as the home visit above. (Warning - I do have children and
dogs at home) Follow up visits
Though most breastfeeding
challenges and problems can be greatly improved with only one visit, some more
challenging problems may require more than one visit. You might want to review techniques and have more questions after our initial visit. Sometimes new problems develop at a later
time in the breastfeeding relationship.
If you have concerns about pumping, milk supply issues, breast or
nipple discomfort, a fussy/colicky baby, reflux, weaning orany other question, a follow-up
visit might be helpful.
